Palm Beach
Palm Beach is known the world over as being one of the most exclusive communities in the world. Originally developed by Henry Flagler the Florida East Coast railroad baron as a winter getaway for the millionaires of the Gilded Age. He originally built two decadent hotels the Royal Poinciana and the Breakers. Eventually he sold lots for the wealthy to build their own mansions on Palm Beach, many of which still stand to this today. Many well to do buyers didn’t want the burden that comes with owning a large estate, but still wanted to live on the island. Condominium builders stepped in to fill the void and built oceanfront and Worth Avenue area condos. The main dining shopping area usually compared to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is Worth Avenue. Many of the same designers have shops on both of these exclusive streets. Palm Beach doesn’t have an abundance of high-rise condominiums, so be prepared to pay a premium to live in one of the most well-known cities in Florida.
