Palm Beach
Palm Beach is known the world over as being one of the most exclusive communities in the world. Originally developed by Henry Flagler the Florida East Coast railroad baron as a winter getaway for the millionaires of the Gilded Age. He originally built two luxurious hotels the Royal Poinciana and the Breakers. Eventually he sold lots for the wealthy to build their own mansions on Palm Beach, many of which still stand to this today. Flagler’s mansion Whitehall is a spectacular structure that still stands today and is a must see for anyone visiting the island. Worth Avenue is the equivalent of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills for shopping and dining. Besides the fabulous mansions, there are many historic homes and condos available for sale. West Palm Beach was a biproduct of the service industry needed to support the residents of Palm Beach. Famous residents like the Kennedy family, John Lennon, Jimmy Buffet and Rod Stewart have added the mystique of the island. The architecture is stunning, beaches pristine and the shopping is unparalleled. I lived a few blocks from the Palm Beach Island North bridge in historic Old Northwood in West Palm Beach and I can tell you from firsthand experience it is a very special city.
